Not sure if you've paid attention, but most of this year's rookies are like fast food - satisfying at times, but not all that memorable.

If you picked a few of them, sorry about your luck and your pool standings.

For those of you who gambled on 2006-07's rookies to remain dominant as sophomores this season, call yourself a connoisseur.

Yes, Pat Kane and Jonathan Toews are good, but not nearly in the same league as Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin was in his freshman campaign.

As we forge ahead into the latter half of 2007-08, here are 10 NHL sophomores none of you should do without.

Evgeni Malkin, Pittsburgh - The pride of Magnitogorsk is actually a little behind last season's pace, but continues to use his frame and skill to his advantage. Ripped Toronto for a hat trick Jan. 3.

Paul Stastny, Colorado - Earned respect by his play, not just his famous moniker.

Kane and Toews are "not nearly" in the league Malkin was last year? Come on now, maybe not quite as good but pretty darn close. Kane is on pace for 82 points. That's only a few less than Malkin and he doesn't have Crosby by his side either.

"Yes, Pat Kane and Jonathan Toews are good, but not nearly in the same league as Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin was in his freshman campaign." Kane and Towes are in a league just the same as Malkin if not higher. Look what they have done for a deminishing team, and also on the plus side they are North American. Can anybody tell me the last time a team lead by a europian or russian or any player across the big pond has won the Stanley Cup..... I don't know if i can think of any. They dissapear in the playoffs except for an elite few that have the North American teammates for guidance (except Peter Forsberg which is probably the best European playoff player to date). North American players make the best leaders the work ethic is there I would take a Canadian/American player over an European player any day even if the Euro player's talent is better than the Can/Am because when playoff time rolls around i know i can count on the Can/Am more (Can/Am players are clutch they thrive on it)... that is what it is all about the post season right?
