Here's one thing that bothered me about certain Ducks fans and their response to the situation. They justified the act by qualifying it first and foremost, in arguing that because it wasn't premeditated a la Simon, therefore it wasn't as vicious an act.
I'm sorry, but when in hockey has it ever been taught that it is okay to step on another player (even if you're the one who is provoked)? Nowhere. It should not be tolerated, but unfortunately all this suspension does is reinforce the existing double standard in the NHL. Pronger gets a healthy break before the playoffs now.

Not going to suspend him going into the playoffs so his hands were tied. Its this biased view that lets campell get away with this BS!!! With this logic a star player can try and kill another player a game before the playoffs and only get 1 game because the playoffs are coming...I cant believe what Im reading around here.

Im an Islander fan and I would never defend what Simon did when he was playing here...All I would say is the guy has issues and he has made stupid mistakes and he payed for them..I felt the suspension was fair so that means Pronger's is absolutely wrong...I love to watch hockey but I HATE the way the NHL is run...The best teams and players get treated with so much bias its appalling...

I think Pronger's stop is much worse then Simon's - while clearly - both are gross. I base this opinion on quite simply - given the choice of being stomped either on the hard boot of my skate or my exposed calf that has a knitted sock for protection - I pick the hard boot of the skate every time. Hockey players know that, they know where protection is and isn't - for pronger to stomp where there is visibly no protection is despicable.
