From the morning-after-the-night-before department of hindsight and what-ifs, the Ottawa Senators probably could have saved themselves a whole lot of hassle, not to mention a few early vacations, had they simply traded for Gary Roberts, say, half a dozen years ago.

Just in case you think you have seen this movie before, relax. You are not losing your mind.

Once again, Gary Roberts looks to lead his Toronto Maple Leafs Pittsburgh Penguins past Ottawa, a one-man wrecking crew who seems to have far too much fun helping the Senators book premature tee times.

It's getting to the point where Ottawa head honcho Eugene Melnyk must have nightmares about this guy.

After one night of tormenting his nemesis yet again, Roberts is one...

This guys a bear with a bad attitude who can hurt you with the physical play and not too bad at finding the back of the twine. Gary Roberts is a proto-type playoff performer. This is where he does his best business, in a long string of minutes playing the same team shift and ever busing shift. He’ll wear you down until you do something stupid, and then kill you on the subsequent Power Play.

Every playoff teams wants one of these guys, tenacious, smart and definitely knows where the back of the net is. Along with that he’s on a first name basis with most of the off-ice penalty timekeepers in the league. With 316 pims in 120 playoff games, he’ll be a nightmare to Ottawa and whoever else has to endure his grinding style. He knows how to stir it up and get the worst out of his opponents and then stick it to them by getting the lamp lit. When I think of him a couple of names come to mind, Claude Lemieux and Esa Tikkanen and both of them have a mitt full of rings…

Gotta love Roberts. If the Sens want to take liberties with Crosby, the Pens can play that game as well. Overmatched and outworked, Ottawa know this is going to be a short series so they may as well take a few guys down with them.

I would love to see the Sens start taking some cheap shots. We can slap them around on other places besides the scoreboard.

He was a wrecking ball a few years back when he tore the Sens apart. Amazing playoff guy.
