Was is really that long ago that the Philadelphia Flyers were battling for the Atlantic Division lead and actually prompting talk of a move from the outhouse to the penthouse in just one season? Well, the Flyers were in their swank digs for a brief stay before snatching a roll of toilet paper and heading back down to the water closet out in the middle of nowhere. And watching their goaltending Sunday, it's no wonder they may be on the wrong side of the fence once the post-season rolls around. Martin Biron let in three goals on eight shots in a severe butt-kicking at the hands of the Penguins, and Antero Niitymaki wasn't that much better in relief. Psst, Paul Holmgren. When was the last time there was a goalie that could actually stop pucks in that town? Biron and Niitymaki are seeing so much red flashing lights behind them, they are probably Read Full Post: Philadelphia

Hate to say ot but the Flyers have always been known for their lack of goaltending, ever since the loss of Pelle Lindbergh.I thought that Biron may be the one to help them out, but this weekend proved me wrong. Sorry Marty, I thought you may have a shot at being an "elite" goalie in the NHL but your shot at it beat you shortside, farside and 5 hole...

Sorry Marty, I thought you may have a shot at being an "elite" goalie in the NHL but your shot at it beat you shortside, farside and 5 hole... That was good! That is the thing about the Flyers. Lindbergh had the potential to become one of the best ever, and that is not hyperbole, but things have just not worked out for the Flyers between the pipes, for the most part. Hextall had to be considered an elite goalie in his heydey and the Flyers came close to the big prize with him,but since then Philly has struggled with their goaltending, whether it was Boucher, Snow, whoever. Dare I say, the Flyers could have won a couple of Cups post-Hextall if they had that bona-fide #1. Had they signed Joseph instead of Vanbiesbrouck way back when, that MAY have been the answer. I thought Biron was the real deal, and he still may be in the future, but he hasn't exactly grabbed the bull by the horns in his first full season in Philly.

Yeah right. Goaltending is far from this team's biggest problem. Maybe if that had some defense to help out, Philly would be aces. We'll still make the playoffs and play some old-time Flyer hockey. I wouldn't want to meet them in the opening round.

We'd have a nice long break before the start of Round 2. Flyers are going nowhere with that goaltending.

Come on, the Flyers have the speedy Derian Hatcher back there defending the goalies! (tongue planted firmly in cheek) Yes, the defense IS weak, but they've not had a goaltender that the team can depend on to win a playoff series in a mighty long time.
