Interesting news out of Phoenix Monday that the Phoenix Coyotes have inked a one-year marketing gig with PGA Tour regular Jeff Quinney. Guessing Tiger Woods wasn't up to adding a few Benjamins to his inflated bank account or simply doesn't like hockey. I'm guessing the latter. Quinney will wear the Yotes' logo on his shirt during tournament rounds. Hey, it could be worse for the 2000 U.S. Amateur champion. At least it's not the Kings. On a personal level, I think the Coyotes would be better off signing mega-hottie Natalie Gulbis to the contract, but that is from a strictly selfish standpoint. Men don't generally watch women's golf, but Gulbis is a reason to. And you can bet those fans will be, uh, looking at her shirt. Instant marketing. Everyone wins. In all fairness, Quinney is a remarkable talent, making this an innovative marketing ploy from the Yotes. Read

Great idea by the Coyotes. Cross-promoting with one of the most popular sports in the world can be nothing but good news for Phoenix. Other teams should follow their lead.

"It is Arizona, after all. In Phoenix, a draft-day party consists of the waitress, bartender, custodian and two or three people who still haven't mastered the fine art of Mapquest just yet."
Not really sure where you get your information from, but I've attended the last two draft parties for the Coyotes and the place has been packed...with Coyotes fans.
"This a few months after an all-you-can eat promotion for Coyotes fans attending games. Hey, if the product on the ice doesn't give you a heart attack, cramming hot dogs, nachos and pretzels in your mouth for two and a half hours should get you laying on the wrong side of the grass in a hurry."
Last time I checked, several other teams in the NHL have been following the Coyotes lead on this promotion. And when was the last time you actually watched a Coyotes game? This team is currently 2 points out of a playoff spot with games in hand on the teams in front of them. This is all being accomplished with the youngest roster in the NHL.
This was a good read until the usual Canadian bashing of the Coyotes began...

Sorry to get your fur up, MNAZ. Truth be told, it was more of a fun poke than anything and should be taken with a grain of salt.
I've been to more than a few Coyotes games in the desert and, yes, have even heard the howls.
It has nothing to do with Canadians bashing the Coyotes. It isn't rocket science that hockey isn't exactly an easy sell in Phoenix, which isn't exactly surprising considering MLB, the NFL and NBA, not to mention several college powerhouses. It isn't like, say, Minnesota, and I know you can attest to that firsthand. Despite having the best player ever as a coach and a young exciting team right in the heat of the playoff race, the Coyotes rank 28th out of 30th in attendance, according to ESPN.

The
Coyotes have an extremely bright future with some talented prospects and current roster players. No doubt. Hopefully the fans realize as such and start selling out Jobing.com

No problem henwood, it just gets tough defending this team to a lot of knowledgeable people who just cast them off as "oh it's just the Coyotes". Not to mention the fact that the majority of NHL fans in Canada and the States wouldn't mind seeing this franchise moved elsewhere, which I understand, due to the attendance and financial problems but it's different when you live here. Before I moved down here, I had the same ignorant view as a lot of people, but there are a lot of passionate hockey fans in this area that are hesitant to lay down the cash until they see a successful on-ice product. Once this team starts winning on a consistent basis, the fans will be here. Phoenix is a tough sports market to crack and the fans here are very much in the "what have you done for me lately?" mindset. Before the Suns got Nash and started winning, you could hear crickets in their arena as well...

Actually I thought it was pretty hilarious. Nothing against Yote fans but pretty funny.
