Marty,

Let's not forget that the Sens, goaltending woes aside, are also a one-line wonder.
The much ballyhooed addition of Cory Stillman has not shored up Ottawa's glaring lack of secondary scoring.
The three-headed monster of Heatley-Spezza-Alfredsson is easily smothered in a tense playoff series.

Nice little blog dude.

Good point, KD, but I'm not so sure about the "one line" thing. It's obvious that is there bread and butter, but the Fishers, Stillmans and Vermettes of the world can be extremely important come playoff time.

I'm not sure Murray will keep the big three intact during the playoffs, especially considering they have been split up for a good portion of this season. With it is a potent attack, I think they'll move Alfredsson to the second line for good, spreading the wealth, so to speak.

I still think the Sens have the team to go all the way, but they need to get out of this funk in a hurry. Last night's comeback in Buffalo may be a decent starting point for them but unless Gerber finds another gear, the odds will be stacked against them.

Tough to pin the problems of the Sens on one guy. As the poster above said, they don't seem to be as deep as they could be, and if you can shut down the big 3 you can beat them. But their goaltending has not be Cup-worthy, something that is going to become painfully obvious in a month or so.

I'm not really blaming "one guy", so to speak, as much as I blame Murray for not talking control of the situation with that one guy. Goaltending has been a problem, but these sideshow antics from Emery certainly has to be causing at least a little tension in the dressing room, one would think.

Fortunately for Murray, Melnyk might not be able to fire his GM when he is in federal prison for fraud and accounting violations.

And the Melnyk scenario is just another off-ice distraction for the team. People can say things like that have no effect on the players, but make no mistake, they do. Hockey players are human, after all.

I think the Emery situation goes deeper than just being a loose canoon. After he led the team to the finals, he was basically benched in favour of Gerber and not having a clear cut #1 has hurt them as well.

If one of the two can take the ball and run with it over these last couple of weeks there is no reason to think the Sens can't go on a run in the playoffs IMO...
