Call Sean Avery whatever you must - and it's safe to say that most have - but the nuisance on blades has figured out the New York Rangers best chance of taking out the New Jersey Devils in the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Get inside the head of one Martin Brodeur as often as possible.

Avery's basketball defense-style standup routine Sunday night may be seen as hilarious by some, aggravating by others, but there is no doubt it is effective, even if the Devils clawed back into the series with an overtime win at MSG.

Count me in among those sick and tired of Avery's antics, but you've got to give credit where credit is due. Avery is...

Avery is doing his job and if the Devils don't like it, they should do something about it. Unless the league wants to make up some phantom rule to get Avery penalized, there is nothing that can be done. To be honest, looks good on golden boy Brodeur. Stop the puck, that is what he is paid to do just like Avery is paid to be a jerk.

Someone should just lay Avery out once and for all. There is a line that shouldnt be crossed and he crossed it long ago. I long for the days of Scotty Stevens. This problem would be solved by now.

The guy is exactly like Tucker, can't stand him but love to have him on your team. I would take Avery any day of the week on my team.

Right now he is the MVP of the Rangers in this series.

I didn't see anything wrong with what he was doing..

Shame on the NHL for changing the rules in the middle of the playoffs instead of changing it after the season ended.

Really, you didn't see anything wrong with that? You condone a player waving his hands and stick in the goalies face with the puck being nowhere near the net? Maybe hockey could start a new position, LW, RW, LD, RD, Goalie and instead of centre, it could be called the stick waver. I thought the whole thing was stupid. First of all it's a safety issue, I'll guarantee if the league let that kind of nonsense continue before they made the rule more immediately clear that someone would get hurt. It’s just plain dumb and it isn’t part of the game I grew up with, more like something you’d see in a schoolyard, but I forgot, we’re talking about Avery…. And the league was right to jump on this right away, you can’t let something as dangerous as that type of nonsense linger until you have 30 GM’s to vote on it, or worse, someone loses an eye or a mouthful of teeth…

BTW, I though you wern't watching anymore hockey?

The NHL has done nothing wrong in sending a warning about this type of interference on a goaltender. It's bad enough the goalies get run over, but to have to put up with a Wanker in front of you waving his arms, and yapping off he deserves retribution from someone.
This was Pond Hockey crap.
Does not belong in a professional league.

Yea, I can see a goalie with a mask on losing his teeth or his eye..

Secondly, I watched the Youtube clip that was posted. Not that I have to explain myself to you.

I don't know that it's so much the element of danger so much as the unfairness of this particular "technique", as I feel it doesn't really qualify as screening.

Watch the video around 1:26 - if I guy is waving a hockey stick that close to your head, it's going to throw you off-balance. Screening is attempting to hide the puck movement from the goalie. What Avery seems to be doing is to try and distract Brodeur - a distinctly different objective.

As far as I am concerned there is little to no difference between swinging his stick that close to his head and actually hitting him in the head, as either way it creates a forced distraction.

"Hey guys, I've noticed that alot of our shots go in if I punch the opposing goaltender in the head right as we shoot."

I don't advocate violence, but I suspect someone, sometime will knock Avery's block off. I mean lay a ass-whooping on him or put him out with a thunderous check. Someone will get him - he's making a mockery of the league and there are enough players that despise him.
