Somewhere north of the clouds, Mickey Renaud is smiling. Hey, it's what captains do. When you're given that ‘C' to wear a few inches from your heart, it lasts forever. Sadly, the undisputed leader of the Windsor Spitfires drifted into legend before his 20th birthday. The popular 19-y
ear
Renaud collapsed and passed away last month, a roundhouse punch that staggered a family, a team, a city. You would have to forgive the people of Windsor if they still have a tough time looking at the standings. It may be a stretch to say hockey no longer matters. Windsor, like it was prior to Feb. 18, is still a hockey town. That can never change. But it's too much, too soon. Now is not that time. No one knows when that time will come, when the score will really matter again. But if you look closely, you'll see Mickey Renaud is still inspiring his charges, Read Full Post: Mickey
Renaud continues to inspire Spitfires

It must be really hard for his teammates to keepo playing. It sounds like Mickey was a really strong leader for that team.

Good for the Spitfires. Must be extremely tough on those kids to play through all of this. Hope they can go all the way.

Well done! It's tough to even think about hockey when a 19-year old dies like that, but I am sure Windsor has added a few fans since this happened.

I feel bad for the next Captain. That would be a hard position to fill in my opinion.

you made me cry.
again!
Up front, I have to admit I was only fleetingly aware of who Mickey Renaud was before his untimely death. I follow the Barrie Colts, an Eastern Conference team who don't play Renaud's Spits all that frequently. But I feel for Renaud's family, his teammates, and Windsor as I'm sure every junior hockey fan does.
And although I'm supposed to be a Colts supporter, part of me wants very much for the Spitfires to go the distance this year. For their Captain. For Mickey. And for themselves.
Nicely done, Marty. Another great piece from you.

Good for the Spits. They've been under the media microscope for the last three weeks and now they just want to play hockey. If the death of their captain gives them a little more incentive, good on them.
