Cliff Fletcher may want to get to know Jay Feaster. As in, real well. Fletcher, or for that matter any GM willing to sell the farm, may be able to pry the #1 overall pick in this summer's NHL Entry Draft, also known as Steven Stamkos, out of the tight little grasp of Feaster and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Now, before the often-ornery denizens of so-called Leaf Nation are calling for me to be fitted for a straitjacket, I said a couple of weeks ago that the Leafs could fast-track at least part of their rebuilding phase by making a bold move up to draft Steven Stamkos this summer. Problem one is now solved. Fletcher knows... Read Full Post: Steven

Stamkos is going nowhere but Tbay. With Richards gone, Stamkos is the perfect guy to step in...the Bolts won't even miss a step.
this guy is going to be something special and Tampa would be insane not to take him. Smith needs time to prove himself and will be fine in net...Toskala is not a spring chicken so why would the Lightning give up Stamkos for him?

I know you are beating the Stamkos drum Marty and I would love nothing more than for you to be right. But I have to disagree that the Bolts would even consider trading that pick to the Leafs. I don't see the Leafs as having anything they would consider. While Toskala is a very good goalie, he turns 31 soon and has only really had one season as a full time starter.
I also think they will at least try with Smith because he was part of the return for Richards.
I just don't see the Leafs coming up with a trade that can blow them away. Would I make that trade though? In a second. I'd give them Stajan and Colaiacovo as well.

I'm not so sure the Leafs, or anyone else, could make that deal but I think it would take more than Toskala and a 1st. With Stamkos upside, it is going to have to be an insane package along the lines of this year's first and a second, Toskala and a prospect. A crazy package but the Lightning won't look at anything less. They'll just make the pick.

I think the Leafs should make a run although like PG says I don't think they have even close to what the Bolts will want unless it is for a package. If the Leafs are going to give a package it had better not include that first rounder. There will be one heck of a hockey player at #7.
