As it turns out, Swedish men's team Arboga was not overly impressed with Hayley Wickenheiser's game after all.
Less than week after it appeared Wickenheiser was all but signed for her second stint with the guys, the plug was pulled.
Oh, well.
For supporters of the women's program in Canada, the news should be met with a collective fist pump and, perhaps, a sigh of relief.
Take down the big top. The circus is packing up.
And, no, that is nothing against Wickenheiser personally. She just has nothing left to prove. To anyone.
I've got absolutely no beef with women's hockey. In fact, I would consider myself an ardent supporter of both the ladies' game and Wickenheiser.
She showed she can play with the boys four years ago, when she had the best faceoff percentage in a Finnish league while toiling for Kirkkonummi Salamat. But once is enough.
