Yes, that's correct. EIGHT overtime periods were played in Michigan's Division I high school hockey championship game between Marquette and St. Mary's. It went on forever (or so it seemed). The result of the record-setting event was a 1-1 tie and a pair of co-champions. The tie was decided and both teams celebrated, or at least those who still had the energy left to stand up did. Wow that is appaling I can't believe they made them play for that long. The article says they ended it at around midnight. That's just crazy. I agree with PuckBunny, it should have gone to a shootout after the 3rd or 4th OT. ~HockeyGal

Heaven forbid anyone would be declared a winner. IMO they should have kept going until all of the players on one of the teams had been carried off the ice.
From there, the outcome would be determined by a no-holds-barred goalie deathmatch.
