How much are good hockey personal trainers? Do I have to take my daughter to a gym, or do they normally work out of arenas or something?

A friend told me that my daughter has great potential and skates well with good puck handling, but apparently she needs core training, whatever that is.

Can anyone share some suggestions on improving your 'core'?

My kid plays ringette (forgive me, it's HER choice as much as I try to get her to play hockey).

She goes to a really good powerskating instructor weekly. It's made amazing advances in her skating, especially edges.

She also went to a gym as part of a group to work with a personal trainer once a week. He is a personal trainer for some of the players on a local OHL team. He worked their core strength a fair bit - which essentially was working on the hips, stomach, abs, and chest (from what I could tell).

Hopefully someone else here with experience in personal hockey trainers can jump in and offer suggestions, too.

Good luck!

Not quite sure where you are in this wide wonderful hockey world, but you might want to try www.athleticrepublic.com
Click on "Find the Republic" across the top menu bar, then select "Geo- Locator". It will give you options for each state.
My son went to the Grand Rapids MI branch and they use the Frappier Acceleration Program which has made a huge difference in his overall ability. Plus the have a really cool synthetic ice treadmill for your daughter to skate on. No matter what, tell her to keep skating hard. :)
